Er lebte zu einer Zeit, als das Römische Reich langsam endete und der östliche Teil davon zum Byzantinischen Reich wurde. Er machte die Stadt Byzanz im Osten des Reiches zur neuen Hauptstadt und nannte sie nach sich: Konstantinopel. Heute kennen wir sie als Istanbul. Wichtig ist Konstantin vor allem, weil er dem Christentum zum Durchbruch verholfen hat.
